Tips for Affirmations and Visualization

I have recently been asked a few questions about affirmations and visualization. Since the answers to those questions could be of interest, and I hope of value, for everyone, I would like to share them with you.

Tips for Affirmations and Visualization

1. It is not necessary to repeat affirmations all the time. You need to choose a few affirmations, and repeat any one of them for a few minutes, several times a day. They are more effective at night, before falling asleep, and in the morning, upon waking up. Furthermore, repeat them at various times of the day, when you have the time, but you need to repeat them with interest, feeling, and love. While affirming, you need to be feel confident that what you are saying is true. When you have contrary thoughts, don’t listen to them, just keep affirming with complete faith that what you are affirming is already true.

It is also important to be aware of the opportunities that come your way, and use them when they come. Furthermore, listen to your intuition – those gut feelings, and to the ideas your subconscious mind sends you, and do something about them. Opportunities and ideas will come, but you have to take action when they come, and don’t just await for miracles to happen with no action on your part.

2. Put feelings, desire and faith into your affirmations and visualization.

Don’t Let the Past Shape Your Future

Most of the events of your life have been shaped by your thoughts, attitude and expectations. If your life doesn’t change and doesn’t improve, it means that you are not changing your thoughts, attitude and expectations. It is like playing the same movie in your mind, over and again, and enacting it in your real life, time and again.

There is no reason to cling to thoughts, beliefs, attitude and expectations. You can change them if you really want. If you change them, you will start seeing life in a different way, acting in a different way, and consequently, changing the events and situations in your life.

Even if circumstances do not change, or cannot be changed, your attitude would be different, and therefore, the impact of circumstances on you would be different, milder, or even non-existent.

If your thoughts have always been negative, and you keep repeating them, how do you expect to improve your life?

Don’t let the past shape your future.

Your past thoughts created your present, but there is no need to repeat these thoughts. You can think other thoughts. You can think of what you want, irrespective of your current situation.

If you start thinking about success, instead of thinking about failure, and keep this way of thinking, in time, these thoughts would affect your life. What you think in the present, would change your future.

The Journey of a Thousand Miles Begins with One Step

Journey Begins With One StepThe title of this article is based on the words of Lao Tzu, who said, “The journey of a thousand miles begins with one step.”

This is true not only for a long journey, but also for a short one, but in this article, I am not referring to actual journeys or trips, but to goals, tasks and actions. I am referring to everything that requires that you take the first step.

Even a simple action of drinking water from the tap requires that you walk to the kitchen, open the tap, and fill the glass with water. If taking the first step is essential for such a simple act of filling a glass of water, it is of vital importance to achieving any goal.

If you wait for things to happen, probably nothing would happen. You have to take the initiative and do things.

Was the Past Really Better than the Present?

Do you think that your life in the past was better than the present?

Do you miss the “good old days?”

Quite often people, not just old people, but people of all ages yearn to the past, believing it was a better time. They think and feel that their childhood, adolescence, and the time they were young was a great time. They think and believe that everything was better than it is now.

This sometimes might be true, but not always. If you analyze these thoughts and feelings in an unprejudiced manner, you might arrive to the conclusion that your earlier years were not as great as you imagine.

I have a certain theory about this, which I would like to share with you.

People do not yearn to the actual past, to past circumstances and situations, which sometimes were good, and sometimes not so good. They yearn to something else. They yearn to two things.

They yearn to the period when they were quite young, when they didn’t worry about money, work and possessions. They yearn to the times when they had no worries and problems, when grown up people took care of everything. It was a carefree period, and this is what they are missing now.

Passive Concentration Versus Active Concentration

As you know, concentration is very important in everyone’s life, and it is one of the main reasons for success or failure in all areas of life.

Most people find it difficult to focus their mind. However, there are times when they do concentrate, but this is a passive concentration. Let me explain.

When you read a fascinating book, do you sometimes forget everything else, and get completely immersed in the book?

When you watch a good movie or a good show, do you sometimes become oblivious to everything else, even to hunger, your chores, or to the people around you?

When you are engaged in an activity that you like very much, do you forget about the time, and it seems to pass very fast?

At such times you can ignore thoughts, noises, people, pain and problems. It is as if the activity you are engaged it, draws your whole attention, without any effort on your part. This is passive concentration.

Too Much Empathy Does Not Help Anyone

Look at the people around you, and you will discover that almost everyone seems to get emotionally involved with other people’s pains and problems. They get involved, and get affected, not only by close people, but also with the problems of strangers too.

Look, for example, at how parents feel in relation to their children. They get anxious and stressed by whatever happens to them at school and with friends. Sometimes, this goes too far, making the parents nervous, restless and tense. This is an unhealthy situation, draining their strength and energy, and preventing them from having a sound sleep at night.

We care not only about our children, but also about other family members, about friends, and about colleagues.

That’s okay, as long as you don’t cause yourself unnecessary emotional pain. Too much empathy does not help anyone and it does not help you.

Be caring, loving and helpful. It is possible to do so, without burdening yourself with other people’s feelings.

You might say that you need to sympathize and empathize. Yes, you are right, but only up to a certain point.

A certain amount of empathy is okay, but when it becomes exaggerated it causes unnecessary emotional pain and suffering.

You need to realize that everyone has his or her own life, with its ups and downs, and things he or she has to deal with in order to grow and get stronger. You don’t need to solve everyone’s problem. What makes you think that you can do it better than them?
