Napoleon Hill was born on October 26, 1883 and passed away on November 8, 1970. He was an American author, who was one of the first authors who wrote ans publicized the connection between success and the powers of the mind. His most famous book is “Think and Grow Rich. which is one of the best-selling books of all times.

Napoleon Hill wrote about the power of belief and faith, and the role they play in achieving success. One of his most known saying is, “What the mind of man can conceive and believe, it can achieve.”

His formula for success, as taught in his book “Think and grow rich”, is followed by many people who have read his book. This book, and the other books he wrote, are still popular today, and are still exerting a great influence on the mind of the people who study or write about creative visualization and the law of attraction.

Napoleon Hill began his writing career at age 13 as a “mountain reporter” for small town newspapers and went on to become America’s most beloved motivational author. He dedicated many years of his life to define the reasons why people fail to achieve financial success and happiness in their life.

The turning point in the writing career of Napoleon Hill has occurred in 1908 with his assignment, as part of a series of articles about famous men, to interview the billionaire industrialist Andrew Carnegie, who at the time was one of the most powerful men in the world.

Napoleon Hill discovered that Andrew Carnegie believed that the process of success could be elaborated in a simple formula that could be duplicated by the average person. Andrew Carnegie commissioned Napoleon Hill to interview over 500 successful men and women, many of them millionaires, in order to discover and publish this formula for success.

Read quotes and watch a video with Napoleon Hill, author of “Think and Grow Rich”.

“A man only begins to be a man when he ceases to whine and revile, and commences to search for the hidden justice which regulates his life. And as he adapts his mind to that regulating factor, he ceases to accuse others as the cause of his unhappy condition, and builds himself up in strong and noble thoughts. He ceases to kick against circumstances, stops finding fault with his neighbors, and begins to discover the hidden powers and possibilities within himself.”
- Napoleon Hill

“All the breaks you need in life wait within your imagination, Imagination is the workshop of your mind, capable of turning mind energy into accomplishment and wealth.”

Imagination and Anticipation

One of the main tools for self-improvement, healing and achieving success is the imagination. Though it is intangible, yet, it creates our reality. Though it is a mental tool, yet, it affects our behavior, habits, expectations and actions. I have written about it in the articles Imagination: The Power of Your Inner Vision, and in The Power of Imagination, and in other articles.

Here is an interesting excerpt from the book ‘The Magic of Believing’ by Claude M. Bristol, about how the mind and senses can be affected by the imagination:

“Often in lecturing in order to prove the power of the imagination, I would hold up two bottles, both containing different colored fluids. I would tell my audience that one contained lilac perfume and the other attar of roses, explaining that my experiment was for the purpose of determining the differences in the respective power of my listeners.

I would then turn my back on the audience so that they could not see which bottle I was partially emptying into the air; at the same time I called upon them to identify the odor. Some would say lilac, others attar of roses. Of course, there was always great chagrin when both groups discovered that their imaginations had led them astray, and that both bottles contained nothing but colored water, and neither had an odor.”

We usually get what we anticipate.

You have to think big to be big

Theron Q. Dumont is one of the pseudonyms William Walker Atkinson used in several of his books on self improvement, the development of will power, self-confidence and personal magnetism. Under this name, Theron Q. Dumont, he has written the following books:

# The Advanced Course in Personal Magnetism
# The Art and Science of Personal Magnetism Master
# Mind or The Key To Mental Power Development And Efficiency
# Mental Therapeutics
# The Power of Concentration
# Practical Memory Training
# The Psychology of Personal Magnetism
# The Solar Plexus or Abdominal Brain
# Successful Salesmanship

I didn’t know until lately that Theron Q. Dumont was one of the pseudonyms of William Walker Atkinson. It has always seemed strange to me that their books covered the same subjects, were written in the same style and at more or less the same time, and they were published by the same publishing house. This led me more than once to think that maybe Theron Q. Dumont and William Walker Atkinson were the same person, or at least they knew each other.

Actually, it is not important whether they were the same person or two different people. The fact is that the books, whether written under the name of Theron Q. Dumont or William Walker Atkinson, were written in simple and easy to understand language, and are full of practical information. They are true treasures for anyone interested in mind power, self improvement and success. No wonder that these books, which were written almost a century ago, are still popular among people interested in the subjects they cover.

Theron Q. Dumont or William Walker Atkinson books can be found in bookstores or on the Internet.

Ophiel ( Edward c. Peach )was an occultist and teacher, who taught and wrote about esotericism and the occult during the 1960 – 70’s. His books focus on the practical side of the occult, and are like a precious gold mine of practical information and instructions.

I have read most of ophiel’s books several times, many years ago, and though his style is somewhat unusual, he delivers his message quite clearly.

Ophiel gained his knowledge through experiments and practical work. He said that because he was not a member of any group or fraternity, he was not sworn to secrecy, and therefore could reveal all the secrets and laws concerning the occult and magic, the subjects about which he wrote.

Ophiel books:

# The art and practice of creative visualization
# The art and practice of astral projection
# The art and practice of caballa magic
# The art and practice of the occult
# The art and practice of clairvoyance
# The art and practice of contacting the demiurge
# Tarot: mirror of the soul
# Art and practice of talismanic magic
# Oracle of Fortuna
#The art and practice of getting material things through creative visualization

You can get Ophiel books at Amazon.

It is interesting to note that Ophiel is the name given to the spirit of Mercury, one of the Olympic spirits. He is the teacher of magical arts and is able to convert quicksilver into the Philosophers Stone.

I tried to find some more information about Ophiel, but could not find any.

Ophiel died in San Francisco in 1988, at the age of 84.

William Walker Atkinson was a prolific writer, who is well known for his books on the power of the mind and using it to achieve success. Though his books were written in the early years of the twentieth century, they are still popular up to this day.

William Walker Atkinson was born in Baltimore, Maryland, on December 5 1862 and passed away on November 22 1932. He was an influential figure in the early days of the New Thought Movement, and for a certain period of time edited a magazine by this name. He was an attorney, publisher, author and occultist. In some of his books he used his name as the author, and in others he used pseudonyms, such as Theron Q. Dumont and Yogi Ramacharaka.

I have become acquainted with the books of William Walker Atkinson many years ago, and have learned a great deal from them. I like his books for their practical approach, clear instructions and for their inspiration and motivation. His language is simple, well understood and to the point. I have read his books many times, each time new truths were revealed, which were not perceived in the previous reading.

William Walker Atkinson wrote the books, “The secret of mental magic”, “Mind power”, “Practical mental influence and mental fascination” and many more. These books are actually textbooks, teaching how to use the law of attraction and other mental laws to your advantage.

William Walker Atkinson books: William Walker Atkinson books

Here is an excerpt about visualization from his book, “The secret of mental magic”:

“Build up a mental matrix or mould, little by little, until you have it before you clearly – then you pour into it the mentative energy of desire and will, until it stands out clearly formed as a mental image, just as you would see it, if it were actually materialized. Then you must hold this mental image before you constantly, regarding it not as a mere imagination, but as a something real which you have created in your mind, and which will proceed to surround itself with the material necessary to give it material objectivity or materialization”.

William Walker Atkinson has also written several books about Yoga and Hinduism. In these books he has used the pseudonym, Yogi Ramacharaka. Among the books he wrote under the name Yogi Ramacharaka are, “The philosophies and religions of India”, “Raja Yoga”, “Gnani Yoga”, “Fourteen lessons in Yogi philosophy and Oriental Occultism” and “Advanced course in Yogi philosophy and Oriental Occultism”. You can find these books here.

William Walker Atkinson published his books under his name, and also under several pseudonyms, such as Theron Q. Dumont, Swami Panchadasi and Yogi Ramacharaka.
