Turning Self Doubt into Confidence

If you have a clear direction in life, and feel ready to move forward, self doubt can be the fastest way to slow you down. If you believe the inner voice of doubt, it can easily rob you of your enthusiasm, bring up fear, and negate all the preparation you’ve done toward achieving your goal. So at some point along your path, it becomes necessary to turn self doubt into confidence.

Confidence is not arrogance, bluster, or posing. It’s grounded quiet assurance. Usually those with natural self-confidence had the good fortune to have grown up in an environment where trying new things was encouraged, and making mistakes was simply considered a normal part of learning, not a sign of failure. Those who lack self confidence usually didn’t have the opportunity early on to receive encouragement, make mistakes, and be encouraged to try again.

You Don’t Have to Participate in the Drama People Create

A few days ago, I came across the following saying:
“Just because someone invites you to drama, doesn’t mean you have to attend.”

This is so true, but sadly, an advice not frequently followed.

  • How many times have you been drawn into the drama someone created?
  • How many times you got too involved with other people’s problems or negative thinking?
  • How many times you felt manipulated by the drama people created?
  • How many times you felt exhausted and tired after such situations?
  • How many times you said things you shouldn’t say, when forced into emotional situations?

I daresay many times. And each time, you tell yourself that you wouldn’t let yourself get involved in such a situation anymore, but yet, you get involved again.

Next time, someone “invites” you into drama, telling you about their health and other problems, sharing their negative thoughts, worries or fears, or just criticizing or emotionally manipulating you, wait for a moment before reacting.

Questions About Lack of Focus and the Chatter in the Mind

Thinking and Lack of FocusI receive a lot of mail each day from website visitors. Some of them send me a mail, thanking me for the information at the website, and some asking questions concerning self-improvement, personal problems, meditation, motivation, creative visualization, and other related subjects.

I try to read all the messages, and if I can help, send a reply, or refer the person who asked the question to one of my articles.

If you have a question, read through the website, before emailing me, since the answer is most probably already there.

There are website visitors, who send very long emails, but since I have other things to do, such emails are either not read, or read only some time later. Short mails are always preferred, and they receive a faster response.

Many of the questions I receive concern concentration, focus and the inner chatter that goes on in the mind.

People are worried about their concentration and want to improve it. They tell me that they are unable to concentrate at work or when they study. They tell me that their mind wanders, and they find it difficult to fix it on one thing.

How Many Thoughts Does Your Mind Think in One Hour?

Do you know how many thoughts your mind thinks each hour of the day?

Experts estimate that the mind thinks between 60,000 – 80,000 thoughts a day. That’s an average of 2500 – 3,300 thoughts per hour. That’s incredible.

Other experts estimate a smaller number, of 50,000 thoughts per day, which means about 2100 thoughts per hour. This too, is a great number of thoughts.

If you were able sell each thought, you would be rich in no time.

Did you notice what kind of thoughts do you think?
If you pay attention to these thoughts, you would be amazed to discover that most of them are useless, unimportant thoughts that pass through the mind with a huge speed. These are words you repeat in your mind, comments the mind makes, repeating what you heard said, questions, answers and a lot of senseless wandering thoughts that you might not even be aware of.

You might not believe that you think these huge quantities of thoughts, but if you have experience with meditation, you would have proof of the great number of thoughts passing through your mind. It’s just like being a very busy train station or airport terminal, where a great number of people come and go.

The Oscar awards ceremony is a glamorous show, where you see the rich and famous at your own living room (only on the screen, of course). For a little while you forget your day-to-day life, and touch fame, wealth, and glamour.

You too, can win the Oscar.

You too, can walk on the red carpet.

Well, not the actual Oscar awarded to the movie stars at Los Angeles, but your own Oscar, your reward for achieving your own success.

I am not talking about becoming an actor, director or producer in your real life. I am talking about becoming the writer, the producer, the director and the main actor in the movie of your life.

Self Improvement, Spiritual Growth and Economic Conditions

Do you think that only people who have no financial and economic problems have the time for self improvement and for meditation?

Some people do think so.

Do you agree with this line of thinking?

It is possible that this idea arose, because people who are in a better economic condition have more free time, and they want to fill it with some activity, with some hobby. If this is the case, then are they earnest enough or they are just dabbling?

Self improvement, meditation and spiritual growth do not depend on one’s economic condition.

It is true, when you are in a better financial condition it easier to afford buying books and participating in workshops. However, there are many instances of people living in difficult conditions that care about education, about improvement, and about spiritual growth, and therefore, find the means and the time for them.

The truth is that self improvement, meditation and spiritual growth do not depend on one’s economic condition. It is your mind that says they do. It does not want you to make changes and improvements, since it is afraid that this might shake its concepts and beliefs, and endanger its supremacy over you.
