New books and new articles about the law of attraction are published almost every day. They grow like mushrooms, because everyone wants to take part in this “new fashion”. This puts the readers in a difficult position, not knowing which book to read and which book or article to believe. Not all books are equal and not every book is really useful.

To write a manual or guide on any subject, one should have practical experience with the subject. It is not enough to read a few books and then to consider oneself as an expert. One, who writes a book on medicine or on engineering, has to be qualified to write on this subject. He or she have studied and gained experience, but it is different in the field of “the law of attraction”, where anyone can write a book and try to sell it.

According to the advertisements, many writers on the subject promise miracles in a short time, and with almost no effort on the part of the reader. Does the law of attraction really work in such a way? Can you really achieve great success, just visualizing a few minutes a day?

Can you say that successful people have achieved their success by just thinking a few minutes a day on what they wanted, and did nothing else? No, they didn’t just visualize 2-3 minutes a day and waited for miracles to happen. They put a lot of time and effort into achieving their success.

If you follow the rules of creative visualization, you can achieve a lot, but you will have to focus your mind on your goal, it must be very important for you, and you should be willing to do whatever is necessary, besides visualization.

Though many authors promise great success and wealth by following their techniques, not everyone becomes a millionaire, and not everyone wants to be a millionaire. Most people want just a comfortable, happy and healthy life, not unusual success, and that’s okay.

How many really and truly desire to be a tycoon, great businessmen, a president or a prime minister? Most people desire a better home, a better car and some money in the bank. Just a little knowledge about the law of attraction and about creative visualization is not going to change their preferences, desires and goals.

Few people really want all the responsibility, work and effort required to live the life of a tycoon or a businessman.

Money and possessions are important, but so also are happiness, health, inner peace and spiritual awareness.

Do you really wish to achieve success?

If you do, and if you are reading this article you probably do, then what are doing about it? Are you just reading books?

Often, people read a book on creative visualization, or what is now called the law of attraction, and get inspired by it. They realize that they can really improve their life, and for a while live with feelings of euphoria. Often, these feeling are short lived, and unless they read another book, the inspiration and euphoria fade away.

Some people read a book, and another book and then another one. They finish reading one book, and then promise themselves that they will start implementing what they read after they finish reading another book, but when they finish reading the next book, they search for another one and then for another one.

They simply become addicted to reading the books. They thrive on the high feelings the books give them.

Books offer information and point the way, but the work has to be done by you. Successful people did not become successful just by wishing they could succeed. They worked both on the mental and the physical planes.

Often, people do not take action and use what they learn. They do not wish to make any effort, are too lazy or are afraid of obstacles, failure or what people might say about them. They live in their imaginary world, and only dream of success. They read books on success, visualization or self-improvement, but this is the only thing they do about achieving success, which is not enough.

Success requires acting and doing!

Are you willing to step into what is called “the real world” and work and act and interact with people? Are you really willing to do whatever it takes to improve your life? Are you willing to do whatever it takes to achieve success?

Look at successful people in any field. Do they just read books and daydream? No, they make decisions, they work, and they act and interact with people. Most of them might not be aware that they are using any kind of mental rules, such as visualization, but they instinctively use these rules correctly. They daydream and have a vision, but they don’t stop there, but do everything they can to turn their vision into reality.

Do you wish to have a successful website? Then you need to read, write and devote a lot of time to improving and marketing your website. Do you wish to be a writer? Then you need to write and find ways to publish your book, not just daydream. Do you want to be a doctor, an engineer, a successful businessman or actor? Continue dreaming, because this will keep your mind on your objective, but this is only one of the first steps.

If you have read books on creative visualization – the law of attraction, start putting the instruction into practice. If after reading a book you still don’t know how to proceed, then read another book, because not all books are really practical. Some of them just tell you all kinds of things that will make you feel good, but they don’t really tell you what to do.

A lot of people shun effort and are easily attracted by get-rich quickly methods. They prefer methods that promise quick and immediate results, but like everything in life, time, effort and work is necessary to achieve anything, even if it is mostly mental work. Can a few minutes a day of listening to subliminal messages CD or following any getting rich quickly method make you Bill Gates, Donald Trump or Oprah Winfrey?

What books to read? There are many books available on creative visualization and the law of attraction, some more practical and others less practical. Some inspire, but don’t offer real instructions, and some, which are very practical and useful, might not appeal to everyone, because they insist on work, even if it is mainly mental work.

You might say that I am biased or that I wish to promote my book (what is wrong with that?), but I believe that my book, Visualize and Achieve, is one of the most practical guides on creative visualization – the law of attraction.

Though the term “the law of attraction” is not used inside the book, this is actually the theme of the book. It offers step-by-step guidance and instructions on how to use creative visualization to achieve goals, and explains clearly what to do and how. It also includes concentration and visualization exercises, as well as examples of how to use the power of creative visualization to achieve various goals.

Theron Q. Dumont is one of the pseudonyms William Walker Atkinson used in several of his books on self improvement, the development of will power, self-confidence and personal magnetism. Under this name, Theron Q. Dumont, he has written the following books:

# The Advanced Course in Personal Magnetism
# The Art and Science of Personal Magnetism Master
# Mind or The Key To Mental Power Development And Efficiency

I didn’t know until lately that Theron Q. Dumont was one of the pseudonyms of William Walker Atkinson. It has always seemed strange to me that their books covered the same subjects, were written in the same style and at more or less the same time, and they were published by the same publishing house. This led me more than once to think that maybe Theron Q. Dumont and William Walker Atkinson were the same person, or at least they knew each other.

Actually, it is not important whether they were the same person or two different people. The fact is that the books, whether written under the name of Theron Q. Dumont or William Walker Atkinson, were written in simple and easy to understand language, and are full of practical information. They are true treasures for anyone interested in mind power, self improvement and success. No wonder that these books, which were written almost a century ago, are still popular among people interested in the subjects they cover.

Theron Q. Dumont or William Walker Atkinson books can be found in bookstores or on the Internet.

There is a bookstore in London, which I always enjoy visiting. It is called Watkins Books, and is situated near Leicester Square, at 19 Cecil Court, Charing Cross Road. Every time I travel to London I go to Watkins books, and spend some time there, browsing, reading and of course buying some books, from the very large collection of books they have. Watkins Books specialize in books about esoteric subjects, spiritual growth, meditation, Indian philosophies and spiritual masters, mysticism, astrology and other methods of divination, magic and the occult and self improvement. It is probably the oldest bookstore on these subjects, having been founded more than 100 years ago.

Watkins Books – An interesting personal experience:

On one of my visits to Watkins Books, about twenty years ago, I discovered a book, which I liked very much. The words in the book spoke directly to my inner consciousness, and brought me a great sense of inner peace and inner happiness.

The book had a hard cover and contained many pages. I wanted to buy it, but as it was a bit too expensive, and I had already bought several books and made some shopping, I did not want to have overweight luggage when returning back home. Yet, as the book was very intriguing, I said myself that I will come back to the bookshop at the end of my stay in London, and maybe I will buy it then.

On the last day of my visit I happened to be quite near Watkins Books, but as I was with friends, and the flight back was due in just a few hours later, I decided not to go to the bookstore.

When I arrived home, I kept thinking about that book. There was something in it that spoke right to the soul, so I decided to write a letter to Watkins Books. I did not remember the name of the book nor the name of the author, but in my letter I told them exactly where I saw it, on which shelf, how it looked and the color of its cover. I remembered that its name included the word “I”.

A few weeks later, I was surprised and thrilled to receive a letter from Watkins Books, informing me the book I was asking about is “I am that”, which contains transcribed conversations with Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj, with whom I was not familiar until then. This was the exact book I was looking for. Of course, I immediately sent them money to purchase it.

I was happy to receive the book in the mail some time later. After reading it once, I kept reading it again and again several times. Reading even just a few lines brought great peace and quiet into my mind, and had the same effect that deep meditation brings. Reading a few lines before starting the day and going to work, transported the mind to higher levels, and set a peaceful and happy mood for the whole day.

It is through this book, “I am that”, that I became acquainted with the teachings of Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj. Later, I searched for other books about his teachings, most of them being transcriptions of his talks. Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj was a non-dualistic spiritual teacher, his teachings being very similar to the teachings of Sri Ramana Maharshi, having the same aim of inner awakening. Maybe I will write about the teachings of Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj at some other post.

I warmly recommend the teachings of Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj to anyone who is seeking spiritual growth and enlightenment.

Mouni Sadhu was an occultist, a spiritual teacher and author, who lived in the 20th century. He was born in 1897, some sources stating Poland as his place of birth, while others say he was born in Russia.

Mouni Sadhu studied and practiced occultism and magic for years, but after reading Paul Brunton’s book, “A search in Secret India”, his focus in life changed. He was fascinated by Paul Brunton’s account about his meeting and conversation with the Indian sage Sri Ramana Maharshi, and from then on, he developed a strong interest in the teachings of Sri Ramana Maharshi, aiming to self-realization.

Mouni Sadhu discovered Sri Ramana maharshi’s teaching at the time he was living in Paris, but after some time, in 1946 he moved to Brazil, finally settling in Australia in 1948.

In 1949 Mouni Sadhu visited Sri Ramana Maharshi at his ashram in Tiruvannamalai, where his spiritual quest reached its heights. He later narrated his experiences at the ashram in his book “In Days of Peace”.

Mouni Sadhu’s Books

Mouni Sadhu wrote seven books, all of them very practical and full of useful information and advice, written from his rich experience. His books cover subjects such as concentration, meditation, spiritual growth, the higher consciousness Theurgy and the Tarot.

If you are a spiritual seeker desiring to gain control over your mind, to understand what the mind is, and to find who you really are, then Mouni Sadhu books have much to offer you.

One of his books is called “In Days of peace”. This is a diary of a spiritual seeker, and is a captivating inspirational, and lucid account of his spiritual experiences. I have read this book many times, the mere reading of a few paragraph was enough to bring a great sense of inner peace and bliss.

Another book is “Concentration – a guide to mental mastery”, which is in my opinion the best book about developing the power of concentration. The exercises are a not easy to perform, and not everyone might be able to practice them all, but even practicing only the first ones, would improve the concentration and the ability to calm down the mind.

Another one of his books is “Samadhi – the superconsciousness of the future”. It is a sequel to his other two books, and was written from his personal experience. It is a must for anyone wishing to raise his consciousness to high spiritual levels. It is rare to find such lucid descriptions, instructions and guidance about the higher consciousness. Just reading it can transform your consciousness and bring it to a higher dimension.

It is difficult to describe spiritual experiences in words, because the mind, which is responsible for talking and writing, has to be silent during these experiences. Yet, Mouni Sadhu had the talent of expressing clearly and logically these experiences, so as to make it easier for others to walk on the same path.

His book “Ways to self-realization” examines the paths leading to self-realization. Its subtitle, explains clearly what the book is about: “A modern evaluation of occultism and spiritual paths”.

“Meditation” is a practical book about meditation, leading the seeker through various stages of meditation to self-realization. This does not mean that by reading the book one gains self-realization. To gain it one needs inner work and persistence. In this book the author brought a wealth of information about concentration, meditation, the mind and what lies beyond it. It is an extensive and useful guide to meditation.

Another one of his books is “The Tarot”. This book is not about divination, and does not teach how to read the Tarot cards. The book analyzes each card from the standpoint of psychology, occultism and magic. In this book. the author speaks from his rich personal experience about the inner powers symbolized by each card, and points to practical ways of using the powers of the mind and of magic.

His last book, “Theurgy – The art of effective worship”, Mouni Sadhu teaches about the power of prayers, with explanations, instructions and examples.

Mouni Sadhu’s books offer the reader real, practical information and instructions, not mere theories. Few books describe the spiritual consciousness and the steps to self-realization, as lucidly as he does, and offer the reader practical tools and guidance to pass from theory to real experience.

I have come across Mouni Sadhu’s books many years ago. One day, while walking by a certain bookstore, I stopped by and entered inside to see if there was anything interesting. A certain book immediately caught my attention. It was Mouni Sadhu’s book, “Meditation”. I picked it up and browsed through it, and was immediately fascinated by it. I bought it, took it home and started reading it.

It was through this book that I came to know about Mouni Sadhu, and became acquainted with his other books, all of which I have purchased and read many times. It was also through his books that I first read about the Indian sage Sri Ramana Maharshi.

Before reading his books, I was aware of the importance of the power of concentration, but after reading “Concentration – A guide to mental mastery”, I came to realize how important concentration is, not just for spiritual growth, but also for using the powers of the mind, for success, and for handling the affairs of everyday life. This led me to follow and practice the exercises in this book, which took time and required effort, but were also very rewarding.
