Attachment – An Excerpt from the Book

An excerpt from the book Emotional Detachment for Better Life By Remez Sasson

Emotional Detachment for Better LifeTeacher: It is important to understand what is attachment and how to overcome it, since it has much to do with understanding and developing detachment.

Attachment is an emotional bond to another person, to possessions, memories, habits, or certain situations. Attachment is usually motivated by desires, fear of loss, and by the unwillingness to make changes.

Desire, often leads to attachment to the object or subject of the desire, and this leads to fear of loss. Fear of loss, in turn, leads to the tendency to hold tightly to people or possessions, but this behavior can cause suffering, when there is change or loss.

Attachment is a kind of dependency that allows possessions, circumstances, people, memories, thoughts, habits and beliefs to control and manipulate one’s life, moods and state of mind. Attachment is the fear of letting go, of leaving the old and embracing the new. It is the fear of change.

Fear of Flying and Visualization

By Remez Sasson

Some people are afraid to fly. Can visualization help them to overcome the fear of flying? It might.

Visualization for Overcoming the Fear of Flying

Here is a simple visualization technique that can help you overcome the fear of flying, or at least mitigate it.

Visualize yourself at the airport, feeling happy and joyous that you are going to fly. Then see yourself going aboard, sitting in your seat and see the other passengers, stewards and stewardesses.

There is no need to worry or feel stressed while visualizing, as this is all in your imagination.

Visualize the plane taking off and you on board. Focus on feeling safe, confident and happy. Look through the window and enjoy the view, enjoy the food served, and you may also visualize talking with the other passengers. Also visualize how happy you are, expecting a great time at your destination.

Repeat this visualization 2-3 times a day, every day, always feeling this is all true and real, and happening right now. Don’t let worries and fears of flying enter your mind, and don’t express any doubts about what you are doing. Gradually, these mental images and scenes will seep into your subconscious mind and replace your fear of flying.

I cannot promise that this exercise will help every one who tries it to overcome the fear of flying, but it is worth trying. Give it a test for one or two weeks, and tell me if it has helped you.
