Money and Retirement Mistakes

There are a lot of people, who do not save money, spent too much, or do not invest their money properly, and when they grow old, they do not possess enough money to retire and have therefore to continue working into old age. They overlook simple, important facts and therefore ruin their chances to retire.

I have found an interesting and educative article that addresses this issue at Yahoo! Finance. It speaks about the common mistakes people do that prevent them from being able to retire. Acknowledging these mistakes and doing something about them can improve the chances of being able to retire.

Attitude Toward Money and How to Change It

Attitude plays an important role in attracting money into your life or driving it away. If you grew in an environment which undermined self-esteem, and lacked motivation or ambition, and if you believe that you don’t deserve to be wealthy or think that money is filthy, you probably feel that you don’t deserve to have enough money, even if you consciously wish you had more.

With a negative attitude toward money, you will not try hard to get it, you won’t pay attention to opportunities, and might even make some errors of judgment that would you cause you to lose money. On the other hand, if your attitude is positive, and you are open and willing to have it in your life, you will attract money into your life in various ways.

Here is an excerpt from the book Visualize and Achieve, addressing the subject of the attitude toward money:

“It is rather funny to hear people say how much they want money and wish they had more, yet, in the deep recesses of their subconscious mind, where it counts most, they repel any opportunity to improve their situation.

It is difficult to attract money, if there is a negative attitude about it. You cannot attract something that deep in your heart you despise. This is a most common attitude for many people. They desire money, but their attitude is negative and therefore repellent. If you want to attract money, you have first to get rid of all negative thoughts and attitude about it. A habit of many years has to change.”

There are several techniques, which can help you change your attitude about money, and one of them is the technique of repeating of affirmations. By repeating affirmations about changing your attitude toward money, your subconscious mind will eventually accept them as true, and a negative attitude will gradually be replaced by a positive attitude.

Visualizing and Attracting Money Into Your Life

People who wish to use the power of visualization to manifest something in their life, often wonder whether to visualize money or the object they wish to have?

If they visualize money, they might get the money, but it doesn’t mean it will be spent on what they want. There might be other needs with higher priority, so they might get they money they visualized, but it is not certain they will get the object they want. In my opinion, it is always better to visualize exactly what you want.

Suppose you desire to travel abroad, what will make you motivated, strengthen your desire, and energize you to do everything you can in order to travel, visualizing getting the money for the trip, or visualizing yourself on the plane, arriving safely, traveling and enjoying the sights and the food, and having a great time?

You can of course visualize and attract money into your life. If you wish just to be financially independent, then it is all right, but if what you wish is a particular object or doing something that requires money, it would be better to visualize your exact desire accomplished. If money is required to make it come true, it will arrive in some way.

Visualization might attract things into your life in a miraculous way, but often, it will attract opportunities or make you aware of opportunities that are there, but of which you haven’t been aware before. It will open doors, but you have to take advantages of these opportunities. Sometimes, you might get certain ideas or intuition, but you will have to do something about them. Often, you will be led to do certain actions, meet certain people and make some effort in order to manifest your desire.

Here is an email message I have received recently about this subject:

“I purchased your ebook Visualize and Achieve today. In the book you suggest not concentrating on money, but rather the product or object. In my case, I have the house, the car, etc. I’d like to retire and travel, so I need money to pay off my mortgage, become debt free and obtain financial freedom. How do I address this with my affirmations and visualization?”

Here is what I replied:

“If you wish to attract money :
1. Visualize yourself looking at your bank statement, which shows a large amount of money.
2. Visualize a check to your order, with the amount of money you desire.

As to affirmations, you can affirm:
1. I am financially independent.
2. Money is constantly flowing into my life.
3. I am so happy to have so much money in my bank account.
4. I have a lot of money and more is coming all the time.

If you visualize money, you might get the money, but you might need to spend it on something else. Why not visualize yourself debt free, financially independent and able to travel wherever you want? This is exactly what you want, so this is what you need to visualize. This sort of visualization awakens the emotions, motivates and make you feel good and inspired, and is therefore more effective than just visualizing money.”
