Paul Brunton was a British journalist, philosopher, mystic and traveler, who lived in the years 1898 – 1981. Paul Brunton left a journalistic career to live among yogis, mystics, and holy men, and studied a wide variety of Eastern and Western esoteric teachings. He has written many books, one of them being “A Search in Secret India”, where he wrote about his meeting with Sri Ramana Maharshi, the great Indian Sage.

I have posted a page with quotes from some of the writing of Paul brunton. You can view Paul brunton quotes at:

Here are a few of Paul brunton quotes:

- Solitude is strength; to depend on the presence of the crowd is weakness. The man who needs a mob to nerve him is much more alone than he imagines.

- Worry is spiritual short sight. Its cure is intelligent faith.

- All thoughts can be traced back to a single thought which rests at the very base of their operations. Can you not see now that the thought of personality, the sense of “I,” is such a basic thought?

- The longing for peace may be kept inside a man for many years, repressed and ignored, but in the end it has to come out.

‘What we commonly think of as constituting the “I” is an idea which changes from year to year. This is the personal “I.” But what we feel most intimately as being always present in all these different ideas of the “I,” that is, the sense of being, of existence, never changes at all. It is this which is our true enduring “I.”‘
- Paul Brunton. An excerpt from The Notebooks of Paul Brunton.

Sit down at a quiet place and think about yourself.
Are you your thoughts and feelings? They always change.
Are you your moods and state of mind? They too change often.
Are you your body?

Now watch your thoughts. They come and go like the waves of the ocean. If you are able to watch them, then you must be apart from them. You are the one watching your thoughts. Then who are you? You are “THIS” that is always here, beyond thoughts and feelings.

If you are able to separate yourself from your thoughts, from your personality, even for a brief moment, you become aware of your true “I”.
