Do You Check Your Junk Email Folder?

By Remez Sasson

Do you check your junk email folder from time to time? If you don’t, then you should, since quite often, important mail goes there.

Sometimes, people keep sending me the same questions or requests, even though I have already emailed my reply. It seems that they don’t receive my emails, and therefore, think that I am not responding. I am sure this has occurred to you more than a few times.

This problem is that sometimes the email message goes to the junk email folder or spam email folder of the receiver. This depends on how the filters on the email software were set. If the spam filter is set on your Internet or email provider, the email message might be removed at this level, and it won’t even arrive in your email account.

Spam filters are meant to protect you, but what if you are expecting an important email message? The mail message might concern payment for a product or a download link, and you will not receive the message sent to you.

It would be a good practice to check regularly your junk email folder. Sometimes, you might find that information about a digital product you purchased got to your junk email folder, and you keep sending requests and questions, but seem not to receive any reply. One day, when you check your junk email folder, you will find there all these important messages.

There are a few things you can do to increase your chances of receiving important email messages:

1) If you are expecting a message from someone you never received a message before, add his or her address to your white list.

2) Provide another email address. Just add at the bottom of your email message the words, “Here is another email address you can use to contact me,” and provide another, alternative email address, hosted at a different provider, in case the first one blocks the messages from the sender.

  1. It can get rather frustrating at times. From the other end, I sit and check my email inbox at least 3 times each day. When I’m expecting an email that just won’t show up, yes, I check my junk/spam folder. More often than not, the expected message is NOT in there either. My only conclusion can be that I was forgotten . . . again or the angry bird of the cyber waves ate that email.

It’s a two-way street without any signs or pavement.
