There's also many interesting writings from/about Gurdjieff.
His clear advantage is to be able to communicate deeper insight, ideas about self development, spiritual knowledge (...) in very few and simple words. And also a method.
An example: one day, a disciple asked him why he had to do the exercises, how long, and what would it be useful for. Gurdjieff answered simply that man has potential, for ex. potential in the art field, but man will have to train several years before becoming really good at art. In the same way is man born with a soul, but has to develop this potentiality through training; a men can't have a soul until he has lived a life of the soul.
