Rainbow Having a hard time with chatter.
Everything.. "I mean" almost everything in my Universe is pointing towards some type of awakening. This path is directs me towards Meditation as a catalyst for this change. But, every time I meditate, I see myself as #2 joined into #1, and then begins this chatter / voices, that has nothing to do with anything in my life. Admittedly, kinda emotional about it. Any explanation or guidance would be so very welcome. Thanks

The mind is not used to silence. It always thinks. When you try to quiet it, you become more aware of its restless nature. There is a constant inner chatter. It has become such a natural process that most people are not aware of it, unless they try to silence their mind.

Take it easy and continue with your meditation without any stress or strain. Whenever you catch yourself conducting an inner dialogue while meditating, just be aware of what is happening, and bring your mind back to the meditation. If you have enough persistence and self disciple, gradually your mind will learn to be quiet.

My book "Peace of Mind in Daily life" covers this topic, and there are also many articles about this subject at the website and at the blog:

RE: Having a hard time with chatter.
I am not an expert at meditating but I tried a certain kind of meditation called the "Who am I?" meditation that has always worked for me. So you could try this meditation too - maybe it will work for you.

In the "Who am I?" meditation, you close your eyes and sit straight or lie down with lights off. After taking a few deep breaths you ask yourself - "Who am I?".

Then you don't say anything, You listen to the answer. Actually feel it - who are you?

Phrases like - "I am Dr X or I am an officer working at so and so place" may creep in. But don't settle with those answers. Ask again - Am I really that? Is that all I am or something more? Who am I?

Keep asking and keep listening...Am I the body? Am I these emotions I am experiencing right now that want me to stop meditating? Am I my thoughts right now?

One answer that gave me immense peace was - "I am that which is still as thoughts, emotions and the body change over me. I am that which is asking the question - "who am I?"

Maybe you can try meditating this way too.. It would be great if it worked for you. Smile

Anyway, all the best!

What did you learn today?

RE: Having a hard time with chatter.
Hey there,

I teach a meditation that actually uses the chatter of the mind to bring it to deeper and deeper levels of thinking. Thoughts are natural and normal even for the Enlightened...they have just tapped into the deeper more pure thoughts while allowing the useless chatter to fall away effortlessly.

The practice uses individualized mechanical techniques that work effortlessly to bring your mind inward and all the thoughts help it to do this. But then something wonderful happens...the mind is satisfied with the Source and so the other thoughts naturally and effortlessly fall away.

You can check out this website if your interested in learning more about the techniques. http://www.theishayafoundation.org/home.html
