Hi Teen,

It's difficult to assign number to this sort of thing, in fact you can equate it to "how long is a piece of string?" question. How I understand the working of the mind is this: We spent most of our life being programmed into forming habits and beliefs by those we interacted with (e.g. parents, relatives, schools and so on). So can you imagine how much programming you need to reverse anything you no longer desire?

The first law of learning is repetition and in time, your positive statements (affirmations) begin to get burned into your subconscious mind, which is responsible for our feelings, actions and results.

You can say your affirmations any time anywhere but to give it more energy, say them when you are in alpha mode, i.e. when you are very relaxed, your breathing is slow and deep such as when you are getting ready to sleep or during meditation.

They say that the best times would be the first thing after you wake up, and before you go to bed.
But for me, as frequent as you can.

The thing is that you be consistent with it. and do it as often as you can.

I believe that positive affirmations only work when we are doing what we are meant to be doing.I think our sub concious mind is in charge at all times and will only allow affirmations to work in support of our life plan.To think that we can ,with our chattering monkey mind, command such a power as the sub concious does not make sense to me.Our sub concious mind is,I believe, constantly guiding us through the process of repetitive thought to our life plan. When we listen to its guidance and go with that guidance our sub concious will allow affirmations as `support for its will`.That is why ,I feel, affirmations do not work for so many people as they may not have listened to that inner guidance. You will not get what your soul does not want.Is it concievable that we should be allowing our sub concious mind imprint upon our concious instead of the other way around?

I also feel that resonance is the key, not the words that are chanted. As some have said, "feel it real". There needs to be a deep feeling state that is in vibrational harmony to that which is being affirmed. That being said, I do agree with Colm. Listening to our inner guidance and following that guidance is all that is necessary to live our life's purpose fully and in ways our little minds can't even imagine. I have been through all the affirmation/positive thinking stuff and have found the best way for me to attune to my inner guidance is to be still and then begin an "appreciation rant" as Abraham-Hicks likes to call it. The more I can think of to appreciate, the more I feel my whole being becoming one with the flow of joy and ease.

I fully agree with the quoted below. But also, I just like to do my affirmations once immediately upon waking and before getting out of bed, and once before falling asleep. And then every now and then i will do affirmations while in the alpha state using brainwave entrainment.

I find then it is best to try to forget about them or think about them as little as possible, otherwise you start saying "why aren't they happening yet, these don't work"

And finally as said below, try to get into the feeling, the affirmations are only a sign post to get you to feeling what it is to be whatever you are positively affirming.

Repeating affirmations to yourself never has a minimum requirement, set time of day, or anything like that. It really comes down to the individual, what works for you.

For me I like to state affirmations to myself when I start to feel resistance. If I am going through the day and I start to feel depressed, stressed, or any other negative emotion, I will start repeating some to myself. It may take a few times, however it will help me to refocus my thoughts and drive forward again.

As with everything, it depends. I used to bite my nails, then one day I looked at my hands then closed my eyes with the image of my hands still fresh and imagined them with perfect nails. I haven't bitten them since. Other things take longer. Smile

Repeating affirmations is a self-talk method that can affect and change behavior and habits. This is an effective method for self improvement and for improving one's life, because the subconscious mind accepts and regards often-repeated thoughts, statements or self-talk as commands. The subconscious mind does not make distinctions between negative and positive thoughts and self-talk, and treats them both in the same way, which means that you have to be careful to choose only positive affirmations

For me, this one will surely work. If you are consistently doing the affirmations then it will lead you there.
