RE: How to achieve peace of mind when...
Peace of mind is a state of tranquillity and calmness, which comes from within. To enjoy inner peace does not necessarily mean that you are oblivious to what is going on around you. In fact, you can engage in various activities whilst at the same time experiencing peace of mind. Anyone who is grounded is at peace wherever they are and in whatever situation they find themselves. Ralph Waldo Emerson said: "Nobody can bring you peace but yourself."

Nevertheless, it is important to reduce and if possible, eliminate the sources of chaos and distractions that may interfere with your inner peace. Personally, I rarely listen to the News or read newspapers. This is not because I do not want to know what's going on. Bad news sells and the media exploit that. If I need to know something, I will. Also if there are people that cause me constant strife, I reduce my contact with them or even cut them off. It may sound drastic but unless you are at peace with yourself, you cannot give what you don't have.

RE: How to achieve peace of mind when...
Well said JoRichards. I agree with you.

I seems that though most people wish they had peace of mind, few know what peace of mind is.

When people talk about peace of mind, they do so when their life is in chaos, when they have problems, or when they are worried or anxious. It is possible to do certain things when one is in such a situation to be more peaceful and calm, but the problem is that in these situations one often forgets what he or she has to do.

Drinking water, breathing deeply, listening to music or taking a walk all help, and there are many other things you can do. You have to remember them and practice them when in a difficult situation.

However, I prefer a different approach. All the above methods are necessary in most situations, but they some sort of first aid. Much better is making peace of mind a natural habit. This requires time and effort, which means that not everyone would work on it. Most people desire immediate results, but true and lasting results take time.

I wouldn't go here into the various ways and methods of gaining inner peace. You can find information about this subject in the articles I written, which can find at the website, as well as in the book "Peace of Mind in Daily Life", dedicated especially for the attainment of peace of mind.

Dear Mr. Sasson,

I believe that what your are saying here is of vital importance to me.. In brief, I get flooded by too much information at one time. When I get overwhelmed , I feel claustrophobic and this causes allot of problems...

I would like to know what you recommend as a way to counter this problem.

Dear Krad,

When you feel flooded by too much information, take just one item of information and focus on it. Forget about everything else. Too much information to the mind is like too much food for the stomach, both cannot be digested easily and might case nausea.

You will need to use both willpower and concentration to steer your mind away from everything else. After your mind digests one item of information, then, if it is not enough, you may go looking for more information.

Thank you Mr. Sasson,

I have to throw you a curve ball ... I have ADD and a problem with working memory thus I'm quite multitasking intolerant .... I know to find work were there is less demand on multi tasking but that is easier said than done ... I have been raised to fight through the fight or flight situation.. Unfortunately , people mistake my fighting to control the situation as fighting with them or having something to do with them...

I'm overly receptive to body language, impatience, hostility and so on. I'm a very diffused thinker and pick up on a lot of information from the periphery some what subconsciously ... When things are right, they are really right and vise versa.

Given that Im an artist and I feel my strength is visualization, are there ways I could use Visualization for these purposes .

Peace of mind comes from within. You must learn to accept yourself before helping others.

Very well said there friend.
You really need a peaceful ambiance to readily achieve an inner peace within you. No worries, no problems to think of. This was a very good advice. Thanks a lot for it.

RE: How to achieve peace of mind when...
I was walking through the streets of New York City last October. It was rush hour and people were pouring out of the stores and ambling down the sidewalks. The cars were bumper to bumper as they each rushed through the intersection hoping to cross it before the light turned red.

It wasn't necessarily warm out and the variety of stimuli was about as high as it gets in the world.

And yet...

I was suddenly overwhelmed by peace.

I had been in Grand Central Terminal minutes earlier about to get on my train home, when as I stared out over the station, I began to see that in the frenetic daily doing that the hundreds of people I could see were involved in, there was a connection.

They are part of a larger flow, and as I saw that, I was moved by its beauty.

This mood stayed with me, and rather than taking the train I walked out of the station and looked out down Madison Ave.

As I walked past people, I was greeted by the perfection within. All of my judgments about people remained and yet, there was no edge to them.

I stood up on a raised platform and could see all the way to Central Park, and I was amazed that even in the complex chaos, there was an encompassing peace.

This peace was within me, and allowed me to be in a less than serene environment without being swayed by its energy.

It was one of the happiest moments in my life.

Think about the positive intent of the feeling. E.g. Perhaps the fear helps saving your life or gives you a feeling of safety. If you don’t know what the intent is you can use the Six-Step Reframing technique to find the positive intentions and to find alternative ways to accomplish your positive function.

You must find the time for yourself to achieve what you need to achieve. Most people around you won't understand the spiritual undertakings you have chosen, it's best to find like-minded people in a yoga class if you feel the need to share your journey with people around you.

Accepting oneself sounds trivial but it is - for me and certainly many other people - quite a difficult task. Any experience how to "get there"? Thanks for any hints.

A group of like-minded people is very helpful. Recently I've a citation saying "the only problem is we are not able to shut up and sit in a quiet room on our own..."

This is pretty much true. Rather then "fighting", it is easier to go with the flow and contribute to the flow becoming stronger.
