How to think positive in a downhill spiral?
Hi Everyone,

I found this forum and I really need some advice. Over the last few months... actually starting at Dec 2010 it feels like my life has been on a downward spiral. I struggle to keep my head above water financialy and just as things seem to get back in line something else happens.

How can I get out of this? I that it probably has to do with me worrying about money that keeps manifesting into my life more of me worrying about money.
I realize that the most obvious answer is to stop worrying... but it's not that easy when you see the bills infront of you and you have no idea how to cover them. Undecided

I'm looking for some ideas on how to get my spirits up... how can I get my head above water and keep it there?

Hello Ponks,

Will it help if you keep worrying? No, it won't. However, it is not so easy to stop worrying, especially, as you say, you see the bills in front of you.

Think often about the futility of worrying. You waste energy and time, which you could use on doing more constructive things.

Keep thinking about the uselessness of worrying.

Every time you start worrying about money, visualize yourself having the money to pay your bills.

Try being a little emotionally detached, when you see the bills.

You will eventually have to pay your bills, in one way or another, but worries will not pay them. It is enough that you suffer financially, so why suffer emotionally and mentally too?

You may not easily change the situation, but you can, with constant inner work, change your attitude. As your attitude changes, as you become more relaxed and detached (not indifferent) you will feel better, happier and lighter. When this happens, circumstances will start to improve, and opportunities will knock on your door.

Hello Remez,
I disagree with most of what you recommended. I think that will result in worrying about worrying too much.
Hello Ponks,
I think you should stop thinking about what you don't have and start focusing on what you DO have. What CAN you do. There is always something you can do, no matter how small.

You still have a place to stay. appreciate it. You still have access to a computer, be thankful.

Gratitude is the best way to stay positive in a negative situation.

I wish you luck.

What you need to do is start taking some positive action! Like Remez said you need to focus on what you do have and also on what you can do!

There are usually ways and means to get your bills sorted out, start being pro-active and find ways to either scrape more money together so that you can pay a little towards your bills or find out if you can put any of your bills on hold so that it gives you more time to find the money to pay them.

Sometimes when we worry we just end up stalling and not taking any action to improve our situation.

Of course you need a positive attitude while all this is going on, which can be very difficult, just have faith in yourself that you can sort it out and focus and find a way to do it.

I hope it all works out fine for you.

In the past people have advocated positive thinking almost recklessly, as if it is a solution to everything. Positive thinking should be used with common sense. First, decide rationally what goals you can realistically attain with hard work, and then use positive thinking to reinforce these.

Yes worrying is not the best solution there.
It will just give you more and more problems and cannot think of idea anymore. Always look on the positive angle that in no less days and in any means you'll be able to gain money.
Try to seek an advice to Financial Experts and read books such as "Rich Dad, Poor Dad" if you have time.
Why don't you ask help to your friends or relatives. If you really need help, why don't you share it with them, surely, at least some of them will lend a hand.
