Increasing energy flow through feng shui
I have often been asked whether feng shui works in increasing energy flow, success, well being and self improvement, etc. This is not an area I am familiar with and would like to understand it better. Does it work and if so how effectively?

Hi Jo, I always thought feng shui was one of those amazing Benihana chef whose really puts on a show.

Seriously,

From my vantage point, color, design, composition can make a huge impact on how one feels in a room.

Color is refracted light white light. It's not random that we talk about light in so many ways.. Insight, vision , enlightenment, reflection.

In the palace of Versailles , they used mirror on either side of the room to bounce light back and forth, thus to maximize light. Also, mirrors make a room look bigger and adds to your visual experience.

You are right Krad, colours and light make a huge difference to a room. What I am uncertain about is how to use them and where to place the mirrors as an example. I was reading something about it last week and this person, who has been teaching it like forever was taking about using compass to determine the direction and position of rooms and where to place things. I was completely lost at that point because although I have a compass, I don't know how to read it! Sad

RE: Increasing energy flow through feng shui
Feng Shui is the art of placement. It is a way to move energy through a space that will enhance one's level of peace and comfort. Placing furniture in a way that allows the flow of energy to undulate through a room is an example. Straight lines of cleared space shoot energy quickly while winding paths allow a nice easy flow.

Sitting with your back to doors and windows gives your subconscious mind signals that make you feel less than comfortable. Try it. Sit with your back to a door, then facing the door. There is a vulnerability with the first position as you would not be aware of someone coming up behind you. Feng Shui is a system that has been around for thousands of years and is all about this more auspicious energy feeling or flow.

While some of it seems superstitious to me, much of it makes perfect sense and as I have implemented some "cures" I have noticed my living spaces feeling much more serene and comfy.

The compass is nice to use but using the "Black Hat" Feng Shui system, your front door would be one of the bottom squares on the flying star grid and you would map out the spaces from there. Front door in the middle of the front of your home would be South. This space is about your life path. Colors used here would be blue and black, ruled by water so a fountain by the front door is auspicious for bringing energy into the home or keeping energy moving. If the front door is to the left of center, then it is in the spirituality corner. This would be a space where pictures of the Buddha or whatever Ishta Devata one resonates with, would be beneficial, as each time you walk in the front door your subconscious mind would register an attunement to that energy. There are so many things to learn regarding Feng Shui, the space here doesn't allow much information.

Joey Yap's Pure Feng Shui is a great book that keeps it simple and gets rid of a lot of the superstitious stuff. Good luck and have fun!

Jo,

The other day I was out walking in around my neighborhood. I asked myself, what bugs me about these place? Then I asked, if I were a primitive hunter, would I want to go into these places? NO ! Why, you can't see if they are safe and they are a place you can be trapped. They are closed off from the street. If they were body language, their hands are folded and they are guarded . They are not inviting..
In contest, take the street cafes in southern Italy. They are open to the street and inviting . They are like a mother with her arms open, welcome . They are casual , so what you feel. In contrast her, it is a place of business. You are pressured to shop / have purpose. They are territorial .

What's funny, today in America the big thing is customer service. Welcome with the contrived, pushy smile right when you get in the door. May I help you, May I help you, May I help you, May I help you, every where you go in the store. When I come up to a deli counter , May I help you, May I help you,, before I can see and decide what I want.

The other day I was looking at these very expensive beach homes and I notice, the don't make any sense. They are out of sync with each other and there environment. Building wise, they were built the same way you would build a Jack In The Box. In terms of engineering , straight 90 degree walls facing the beach? These home are not going to age well.... These were multi million dollar homes.... If this is a reflection of their mentality, then what does it mean for our society?

Hypnotherapy is an excellent resource for resolving stress and regaining a sense of balance. The seeds of our feelings of powerlessness are often sown in our early years when we indeed were, for all intents and purposes, powerless.
