Information About Concentration
Tonysfund has posted the following question in this forum, under the "Welcome to the Inner Powers Forum" topic, but I chose to post my reply here, under a different topic, more appropriate topic.

Quote
"I read "The Power of Concentration". I've been doing one of the exercises for a while and have recently started doing some others. Should this be an automatic thing that I notice because I'm not sure if it is taking. How long does stuff like this usually take before you're noticing a different? I've added sublimial messaging and visualization all geared towards mastering this. Is there anyone willing to help me achieve this, give me guidance, etc."

It is difficult to say how long one needs to practice each exercise. This might vary considerably from one person to another. For one person, it might take just a few days, and for another person, days, weeks, and even much more. This depends on the strength of the concentration power one possesses, on how restless is the mind, on how much noise and distractions are present when actually practicing the exercises, on how many times a day, and for how long you practice each exercise, on motivation and on other factors.

You know when you are improving, and when you are ready for the next exercise, when you are able to practice an exercise without being distracted or forgetting about it, being focused for the duration of the exercise. If you see that in everyday life you feel more calm and focused, then you are getting results.

After being able to practice one exercise correctly, continue doing it for at least one more week, before going on to the next exercise.

Re: Information About Concentration
Thanks for the information. I have been doing meditation for a while prior to doing this. It seems like I can focus when I am able to look at an item and talk to myself about the item that I am looking at but to just look at it I am unable to. I loose interest fast. What can I do about that?

Re: Information About Concentration
You just need to persevere, no matter how many times your mind drifts off to other subjects. Don't feel bad for not being able to fix the mind on one thing without talking about it or describing it. This is an acquired skill; people are usually not born with it.

If you wish to speak a foreign language, or if you wish to develop a muscular body you need to train yourself, and it is not different with concentration. It requires patience, motivation and dedication, and this why so few treat this subject earnestly.

Trying again and again, and doing your best, will develop in you patience, willpower and inner strength, in addition to concentration.

Thanks, I will continue. I realize people are all different but could you give me a shot in the dark ball park figure how long (best and worse case) before I start really noticing a difference?

You might notice results in your concentration ability within a few weeks. These are minor results of course, but still noticeable. A few months of training will of course bring you better results. If you wish to have real control over your thought processes and and your mind, and be able to calm your mind completely, you will need much more time. There are people, especially in the Far East, who devote all their life to this aim.

From experience I can tell you that within a few months, if you are earnest and practice every day, you will have better focus.

Does having this ability mean that you're more determine to see things done, or does this bring universal forces into play like the whole visualizing?

RE: Information About Concentration
- Concentration helps you to focus the mind
- Calm down the restlessness of your mind
- Helps you when you meditate
- Important for psychic development
- Very useful for creative visualization
and much more

It is a skill which you need to develop, in the same way that you build your muscles by training your body, or when you learn a foreign language.

Thanks for your efforts in getting me to truly understand this power. I read some things on Conscious Awareness and how to control yourself and events by this. How to do this seems the same as concentration. Is there a difference between the two? If so what?

RE: Information About Concentration
Hi, I just started the concentration exercises three days ago and I can get to three minutes, but when I try again, I conk out after one minute. I practice for ten minutes, but always fall asleep after 1minute segments. Just keep practicing?

2) Should I start over right when My mind starts to drift or only if I actually lose track of the count of words?

3) My body gets so tense, I have to remind myself to breathe and relax while counting and this is distracting. Will this get better w/ more practice?

4) Embarrassed that I must never have concentrated on anything this intensely before. (And I'm only up to 3 minutes!) Dropped out of college because could not study, always fell asleep, even with enough sleep. When I try this first exercise, I feel disoriented, my head is buzzing. It's not completely unpleasant but completely new and a little strange. Any idea what this is? Myelin sheath growing, synapse firing? LOL

Thanks very much!

RE: Information About Concentration
Hypnotherapy is an excellent resource for resolving stress and regaining a sense of balance. The seeds of our feelings of powerlessness are often sown in our early years when we indeed were, for all intents and purposes, powerless.
