Positive Thinking
Life is a mirror. It reflects the way we look at it. The poem below looks at Life in different ways.

“If Life is a book,
Every effort is a page
And every achievement is a new chapter.
If Life is a school,
Every failure is a lesson to learn
And every hurdle is a problem to solve.
If Life is an exam,
It is evaluated by success and failures,
Success is rewarded
And failure needs a re-attempt.
If Life is a journey,
Every goal is a destination,
Every effort is a path
And every problem is a trouble on the way.”

Positive Thinking has the power to change Life the way we want.

RE: Positive Thinking
The mind is a storehouse of good and evil thoughts, which needs to be cleansed often. Like our body even our mind gets stressed, which obstructs the flow of ideas. By resting our mind for a while, we give time for the mental blockage to dissolve and the flow of ideas to continue. You can find a lot of inspirations by looking around. Listen to inspiring music and read motivating books. Life is to learn. Look back and learn from mistakes. There may be many causes for a problem. Identify the right one before finding a way to solve it. Have people around who inspire and appreciate your ideas and stay away from those who demotivate.

RE: Positive Thinking
Thinking positively can be a challenge initially because there’s so much stuff that has been stored in our subconscious minds and in time, they habitually come to the fore to take their dominant position. These are called paradigms (habits) and will take concentrated effort and determination to reverse that.

This is not to say that everyone thinks positively all the time but we are all aiming to predominantly think positive. The law of rhythm determines that day follows night; tide in, tide out; bad times followed by good times, etc. Similarly everything has a corresponding opposite such as up/down, sad/joy, rich/poor etc. So there is nothing wrong in feeling out of sorts occasionally, so long as you don’t find comfort and stay there.

With regard to learning how to stay positive, there are many ways to acquire and inculcate this habit into the subconscious mind so that it becomes a dominant factor. I would initially recommend learning how to meditate. Meditation calms the mind, not immediately but through practice, you begin to notice what goes on in your mind and in time you begin to acknowledge these random thoughts and kindly send them on their way. As you practice meditation, you will gradually begin to get in touch with your inner self and that’s when the magic starts – you are then in touch with your feelings so that you can effectively self talk yourself into positive frame of mind constantly. This self talk may be through affirmations as an example.

Hope this helps Smile

RE: Positive Thinking
First you must believe that every problem has a solution and then start finding that solution. If there are many options and you are not sure which one to choose first try to figure out what caused the problem and you will start finding the right way to solve it. We can avoid negative thoughts by keeping our mind occupied in more productive activities. You can start reading motivating books.

When your heads a total mush of things and you can't see how to clear it and get negative thoughts out because of external negativity.

One of the ways that i do it is by:

Tackling your internal dialogue

Firstly, you need to change the conversations that you have with yourself. When you find yourself thinking negatively or being overly emotional in your response to something, stop, think about it logically, rationalise it and put a positive spin on it, for example:
Instead of thinking:

“I’ve lost my job, what a disaster, I’m going to lose everything I’ve ever worked for!”

You could think:

“I’ve lost my job, but hey, this could be a great opportunity to step up my career, I should get higher pay in my next job and I’ll gain more experience and expertise and hopefully meet lots of great new people in the process.”

2. Be solutions orientated:

Instead of thinking: “I can’t do that.” think of all the qualities that you have that would enable you to do it.

Think of all the different ways that you CAN solve a problem, BEFORE thinking of the reasons why you can’t.

You do have to make a big effort to do this every time you find yourself being negative, it won't come naturally at the start at all, but it definately gets easier and more natural with practice. Smile

RE: Positive Thinking
About a little over a month ago I decided I didn't like where I was going and decided to make changes....this is one of the tricks I use when I feel like I'm sliding back into old dark and negative ways....I imagine I'm in a beautiful forest but I can't enjoy the view because the tree in front of me is hiding the rest of the forest from me. I also realise I don't necessary want to cut the tree down, it is after all part of the beautiful forest and it would take way to much effort to do that anyway. So I think what do I need to do to move a little to the right or to the left to have a better view? It works for me. I guess the main reason is because it makes me take a mental break and refocuse on what I have to do.

Everything is getting better everyday.

RE: Positive Thinking
If by 'external negativity', you mean things going on around you that are provoking a negative reaction from you; you want to realise that regardless of what anyone else is doing, you always have the power to choose your response. This is not easy in the beginning as we tend to revert back to our typical habits of thinking and knee-jerk reactions. So it takes some practice to develop the habit of looking for the positive aspect of things.

As Jo said, a great way to begin learning that is through meditation. Meditation allows us to slow down our thoughts so we can observe them and become detached from them rather than having them carry us away all the time. When you practice meditation for a few minutes each day you will naturally become more aware of what you are thinking and have more opportunity to let go of negative thoughts that come up before they can carry you away.

What you really want to be paying attention to is how you feel in each moment, as that indicates the quality of the thought you've been entertaining.

RE: Positive Thinking
Most people look at a problem as a wall blocking their path. The correct way to look at is by seeing a problem a step ascending upward towards your goal. That step makes you a stronger and better person. Having that view will make you think more positive.

The phrase "fake it till you make it " I think is a model of positive thinking. With that frame of mind you are projecting success into your life before you even know it.
