What is Time Management?
Time management can be defined as a set of principles, practices, skills, tools and systems that help you use your time to accomplish what you want.

There are so many temptations and distractions in one's everyday life that most people find it difficult to manage their time.

Do you have any tips, ideas or advice on managing your time that you would like to share?

Yes you are perfectly right Remez, in theory it is a set of principles etc . . .

Time management is a much discussed topic, however there are times when the term is misused and used as an excuse for other things, such as when something has not been completed. For example, "my time management isn't very good" or " I need some time management training". When all that was required was a little bit of application.

Stephen Covey discusses Time Managment in some depth in his book "The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People."

Having said all this I think it's very important to have well honed Time Managment skills in your toolbox to ensure you are a high performance operator with an effective and efficient output.

There's a lot to be said for starting off with simple 'to do lists' each day and making sure they are completed. Any incomplete or not started tasks should be moved forward to the following day.

There are many other elements that can be added to Time Management to make it more effective, such as goals setting, evaluation and feedback.

Paul

Re: What is Time Management?
Hello everyone, for me Time Management is very important. If you want to succeed and reach your goals you must know how to manage your time. Having a "to-do-list" daily can be helpful so you could accomplish each task right on time and finish your work right on schedule.

RE: What is Time Management?
Time management is so important. Yet it has been a tough one for me lately. Primarily because I work long shifts at odd hours which tends to leave me drained. Coupled with an increasingly bad diet its been a bad combination. Thats been my life for the last few years unfortunately.

Thats ok, time to turn around...

Time to dust off my copy of '7 Habits' now where is it again?????

Time management is an orderly coping with pressure using multi-tasking technique and getting expected result at the end of the day..

RE: What is Time Management?
It seems to me that the true value of time management comes when we learn to step off this treadmill of urgent activities and instead proactively choose to weave a life that aligns with our highest priorities. Time management is really life management. It goes far beyond just getting things done. It's really a tool to weave a life that you love.

I work as a professional coach and although there are a million time management systems out there, I like to combine the principles from the the Corporate Athlete System (which is about managing your energy), Stephen Covey's systems (which is about managing your priorities), and the Getting Things Done System (which is about triaging stuff and to-dos). Together these three form a pretty awesome time management system, but none of them alone is sufficient. If you're interested in learning how to combine these systems, I discuss this in depth on my site at the time management activities page.

RE: What is Time Management?
When you think about it, no one can really manage time but you can manage the concept of it. If you think about it deeply, time actually manages us because we have such a limited time in this life. So much has been said about time management and it is an industry in itself and it is not my intention to question these.

It is important to have a clear goal to which one is aiming to achieve as well as a timeline as to when it will be accomplished. To get organised and stay focussed, it is essential to have a list of tasks that will incrementally contribute to the achievement of that goal. From that list, there are 4 important categories: (1) urgent/important; (2) urgent/unimportant; (3) non-urgent/important; and (4) non-urgent/unimportant. Some people have a tendency to focus on number 4 because it fits their comfort zone. Some people also purport that you focus on urgent/non-important and by completing it, it will take care of urgent/important.

Whichever or whatever you choose, the important thing is to stay focused on the goal and have fun with it. If there is no fun, motivation becomes a struggle and that's when people want to get 'time management training' Smile

RE: What is Time Management?
Idea
I have a favourite phrase when it comes to Time Management - 'we can't manage time, we can manage our attention'
I also notice that we're often pressurising ourselves along a path that doesn't suit us, without inspiration it's hard to get motivated and that's when we put things off.

Lack of Inspiration leads to lack of Motivation and a bucket full of Procrastination!

So, along our true path - one that suits our heart and our particular creative ability - we find inspiration and motivation and time takes care of itself.

Easy to say, but something we have to practice focussing on, just like working on a muscle at the gym.

PS This is my first post - Phew that's broken the ice!Heart

RE: What is Time Management?
Thanks for the nice replies and posts,

But here I want to share my personal experience which worked for me, whenever I
wake up early in the morning, around 4:00-5:00 am I can completely do whatever is in my "to do list", I don't know exactly why, but I feel that I have more energy during the day, and I don't get tired at all, so that I could work until midnight.
Another point which worked for me is that, I should not waste my time on TV and watching films and series, it is an absolute waste of time (for me).

So I suggest you to wake up early in the morning for one week and see the result.

Hugs,
