Visualization is an activity, which all of us do every day. We visualize, or more correctly, daydream about the things we wish to have in our life.
We carry in our mind mental images of what we wish to have or achieve, and also the mental images of the things we fear.
We visualize constantly, whether we are aware of the fact or not. This activity has an important place in the life of everyone.
Whenever you think or plan what to wear at work, at a party or on the beach, your imagination is in action. You use your imagination to visualize yourself wearing the clothes you are thinking about.
Where Do You Use Your Imagination?
- When you set out to go to some familiar place, such as your office, the grocery, a shopping mall, or a friend’s house, you see in your mind the place and the route to it, albeit unconsciously.
- Before going to a place where you have never been before, you plan your way beforehand. How do you do it? You use your imagination and ability to visualize. You visualize the road and the streets you have to pass through. You plan the way with the help of visualization.
- You use your imagination when seeking a solution to a problem. You simple visualize various possible scenarios.
- When something is bothering you, you often see in your mind’s eye the unpleasant situation, and might even suffer, as if you are in a real situation.
- Suppose somebody asks you how to get to a certain address. You describe the route, while at the same time you see it in your mind, in your imagination.
You use your imagination and visualization whenever you decide to bake a cake, buy a new pair of trousers, redecorate your home, decide which car to buy, plan your vacation, tell a story, fix something at home, or speak about a movie you have seen.
You just consciously or unconsciously see in your imagination what you are going to do. You see the steps you need to take, and sometimes, even feel the pleasure, fun, or discomfort of the situation you are visualizing.

What about daydreams?
What is daydreaming? It is the act of imagining scenes and actions in the movie of the mind. While daydreaming, the daydream might seem real to us. We might often repeat it, because we enjoy it.
If we repeat the same daydream over a period of time it, the mental image becomes engraved on our mind, we start believing it can come true, and start seeking ways to make it come true.
Our daydream can become true, especially when strong emotions and desire are involved, because they awaken motivation and lead to action.
You need to be careful of what you daydream about. When positive daydreams materialize, they can bring improve your life. However, daydreams can also be about unpleasant events, about difficulties, trouble and self-pity. If we go on repeating them in your mind, they might also materialize, and create unpleasantness and unhappiness.
Strive to be more aware of your daydreams, and do not allow your mind to daydream about what you do not want and about the things that make you feel bad.
What We Visualize Affects Our Attitude, Moods and State of Mind
You have to be very careful with what enters our mind. Thoughts are like guests that visit your mind. They bring with them positive or negative feelings. Do you allow everyone to enter your home, even people you don’t know? You certainly do not do that. This should also happen with your thoughts.
When the same kind of thoughts frequent the mind, they become permanent residents.
Your mind is your private home. You should be careful with whom you let in. This might not be so easy for a beginner, but with some perseverance, you can improve your ability to decide what thoughts to let enter into your mind and what thoughts to reject.
You should be aware of thoughts and mental images that occupy our mind, especially the ones associated with deep feelings, as they are the strongest and most effective.
Feelings give power to your thoughts. The stronger the feelings, the stronger your thought becomes, and the stronger its effect on you.
This is why you should choose positive and happy thoughts, and avoid negative and unhappy thoughts.
