Nobody desires problems, difficulties or obstacles, but yet, though it might seem strange, people prefer them to inner peace. There is desire for peace and freedom from everyday problems, yet, there is fear that inner peace might take away the feeling of being alive and active, and make you an indifferent person with boring life. Most people prefer to stick with the familiar, even though they know it is not in their best interest. How strange it is!
The ego, which is composed of one’s mind, thoughts and habits, is afraid of inner peace and inner silence, because it fears it might cease to exist in such a condition. If there is inner peace and silence, it means there are no thoughts, so where will the ego be? If the mind is silent there is no ego, and the ego objects this state of affairs.
Inner peace and silence often cause the ego to cease existing temporarily or permanently. Does this mean that you cease to exist? Are you the ego, or something higher than the ego, which is your tool of communication with the external world?

The law of attraction is the attractive, magnetic power of the Universe that draws similar energies together. It manifests through the power of creation, everywhere and in multiple ways. Even the law of gravity is part of the law of attraction. This law attracts thoughts, ideas, people, situations and circumstances.
The law of attraction manifests through your thoughts, by drawing to you thoughts and ideas of a similar kind, people who think like you, and also corresponding situations and circumstances. It is the law and power that brings together people of similar interests, who unite into various groups, such as political groups, sports teams, sports fans, fraternities, etc.
Can you take advantage of this law? Yes, you can!
You do so, through creative visualization and affirmations. By visualizing a mental image of what you want to achieve or by repeating positive statements, which are called affirmations, you create and bring into your life what you visualize or repeat in your mind. In other words, you use the power of your mind, thoughts, imagination and words.

Meditation is a technique for calming down the restlessness of the mind and awakening the spiritual consciousness. Regular practice brings inner peace, happiness and freedom from restless thinking. Meditation also relaxes the body and nerves, relieves stress and frees the mind from anxiety and worry.
In meditation you focus the attention on a certain thought, idea, sound or prayer for a certain amount of time. It usually involves turning the attention inwards, away from the external world, and when the mind wanders away, bringing it back to the meditation.
In it higher forms, meditation aims to free the mind from the subconscious compulsion to think incessantly, develop inner detachment and awaken the awareness of the Spirit within. Its regular practice awakens a new sort of consciousness, peaceful and blissful.

What do you do, when you go through an unpleasant experience or when someone tells you something you don’t like? Do you keep thinking about the event or the words said? Do you go on playing the same videocassette or audiocassette in your mind?
This reminds me of a story I have read in the book “101 Zen stories”, about two monks who were walking from one village to another. On the way they came to a large puddle full of mud, which they had to cross. At the brink of the puddle they saw a young woman standing, afraid to cross it.
“Come”, said one of the monks, “I will carry you to the other side”. He took her on his back, and carried her to the other side of the puddle.
After crossing the road, the two monks continued walking silently for hours, until they reached their destination.
The other monk could not keep silent any longer and exclaimed:” How could you carry that girl on your back? We are monks and are not allowed to touch women.”
The monk who carried the women over the puddle smiled and said: “I have left the girl at the other side of the puddle, but it seems you are still carrying her with you!”
This story shows the importance of detachment. Thinking over and over about the past, or repeating futile, unnecessary and negative thoughts, is like carrying a heavy load on your back. It is important to let go and learn to display detachment toward such thoughts. This will develop the ability to clear the mind of unnecessary and disturbing thoughts, and bring a sense of freedom and happiness.
Pay attention to your inner conversations and to the thoughts you keep repeating in your mind, and you will see how much time and energy you waste by thinking over and over about past actions and events, or on what people have said.
It is much better and more profitable to forget the past and concentrate on the present moment. You cannot change the past, but you can make the present moment happier and more enjoyable. Improving your present moment improves your future too. The ability to do so depends on your ability to free your mind from the past and from unnecessary and negative thoughts. Doing so, will bring more happiness, joy and real freedom into your life.
Inner detachment and freedom from thoughts requires some training and inner work. You can find clear and step-by-step instructions and guidance for developing them, in the book Peace of Mind in Daily Life.

Nowadays, we hear so much about the law of attraction, and how it can change your life. Books, websites and people teach it, some of them promising quick and easy success and wealth.
The law of attraction works in the lives of people, as it works in nature, and I have written a book about how to use it. Though this law works and brings results, you need to know a few things about it and how to use correctly, and you have also to devote time and effort to make it manifest in your life.
Attaining success requires persistence, willpower, self-discipline, strong ambition, a definite plan and certain other skills. It does not happen overnight as some promise. Of course there are certain goals that are within immediate reach, and can therefore be accomplished quite fast. This is because you are already ready for them, and all you need is some small effort to bring them about, but if you desire something that is way above your present reach, you can still get it, but even if you use the law of attraction you will need to invest time and effort to manifest it.
There is a vast difference between manifesting a car, when you already have most of the money to pay for it, and manifesting a successful business with many employees, when you have no money in the bank.
