If you want to achieve success, you need to use your imagination.
Successful people build mental images of their goals. A clear mental image of what they want to achieve, helps them see their goal, and the way toward it, clearly and with detail. This helps them know what steps they need to take.
Inventions, buildings, cars, shopping malls, and any kind of business, started as an idea, and then as a mental image in the mind of their creators.
All successful people create in their minds, what they want to do, before setting out to do it.
A Mental Image Is a Road Map
A mental image is a road map. With this map you plan your direction, and the actions to take on the way.
We use our imagination in everything we do. It is not limited, only to the achievement of success, but we use it extensively in all areas of life.
Some people don’t take imagination seriously, saying “It’s only imagination, it’s not real”. However, these very people use it, even the most practical, and down to earth people.
Just watch yourself planning a vacation, where to eat, what to cook or what to wear, and you might be surprised to discover that you are using your imagination in all these plannings.
Examples of Using the Imagination
Let’s suppose you are planning your vacation.
You visualize where you intend to go, in general terms, if you have not been there, and more clearly, if you have already been there. You might even sometimes daydream about it.
Also, if you imagine what you are going to do there, it helps you remember what to pack in your bag, your slippers, toothbrush trousers, etc.
You intend to bake a cake.
You already have an image in your mind of the ingredients and the steps for preparing it. You might even envision the cake ready, and your family complimenting you about it.
Asking for directions
When someone asks you for directions to get to a certain address, you see the way in your imagination, while you explain how to arrive there.
In the same way, imagination is used for almost everything you do. From simple activities and planning your day and your tasks, to writing a book, doing business and achieving any kind of success.
What is the practical advice of all this? Take your imagination seriously. It is a valuable tool.
Use it in a conscious manner, instead of unconsciously and automatically. When you are aware of it, you can use it more efficiently.
When you plan, and see in your imagination, clearly, what you want to do, you save time and energy, because you go in a straight line toward your goal.
