Mahatma Mohandas Gandhi was born in Porbandar, India (2 October 1869 – 30 January 1948). He was a prominent Indian political leader who campaigned for India’s independence from British rule, employing nonviolent resistance.

After studying law, Gandhi advocated for the rights of Indians, ultimately becoming the father of the Indian independence movement.

His non-violent activism reached far beyond his homeland, becoming a global call for the oppressed worldwide to stand up for freedom and justice through peaceful protest.
